Satpura Tiger Reserve is spread over 1427 sq km and was formed in 1981 after joining Satpura, Pachmari and Bori sanctuaries.

Satpura National Park is located in the Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh. The park gets its name from the Satpura range.
How to reach
Satpura Tiger Reserve is best can be reached by taking a flight to Bhopal from Delhi. It is 140 km away from Bhopal. Satpura is very well connected by train. You can take a train to Itrasi (70 km/2 hrs by road to the park); Hoshangabad (70 km/2 hrs by road to the park); or Piparia (40 km/1 hr by road to the park). Taxis can be hired from all four towns to reach the park. Some of the hotels offer pick and drop service.
What to see & do
You can opt for jeep safaris inside Satpura Tiger Reserve. Safaris inside the park are operated by the village society and Denwa Backwater Escape. You can also enjoy elephant safaris offered by the Forest Department. Boat safaris are also available. Bhimbetka Caves, 45 km is a Unesco World Heritage Site with prehistoric paintings dating back 12000 years that you can visit.
When to go
The best time to visit Satpura Tiger Reserve is from mid-October to end-June. However, May and June get very hot but these are also the months that offer the best wildlife sightings. The park closes between July and mid-October for the monsoon.
