Chandipur Beach – Walk on the Sea Bed
|Perhaps summer is not the best time to visit a beach destination but that doesn’t mean we should not talk about it. India has a number of beaches and Goa is the obvious name that comes to mind when you think of beaches in India. But there are beaches in India that are unique and impressive in their own ways. Chandipur beach in Orissa (now Odisha) is one such beach that is unique, beautiful and calm. It is also called Chandipur on Sea and that’s not without reason.
It is perhaps one of the very few beaches where you can literally walk on the sea bed during the low tide. The sea here recedes as much as five kilometers giving travelers an opportunity to take a walk on the sea. So much so locals here don’t mind riding a bike into the sea bed.
Swaying casuarina trees and peaceful ambience adds to the charm of Chandipur beach. Take a leisurely walk on the beach and it is not unusual to find a horseshoe crab or red crab crawling beside you. By the way, have you noticed some recent advertisements by Odisha Tourism? If you have, you’ll understand quickly what I am talking about.
Chandipur is not as popular as Puri is but if you are looking for a quiet getaway, Chandipur beach is the place to go in Odisha. Chandipur is located at a distance of 200 km from Bhubaneswar. Chandipur can easily be reached either by rail or road. Balasore is the nearest railway station at a distance of 10 km from Chandipur.
Odisha Tourism has a guest house in Chandipur. There are a couple of hotels also available in Chandipur. Balasore has quite a few stay options where one can stay when visiting Chandipur beach.
